SEATTLE -- Former Mariners first-round Draft pick Dustin Ackley has agreed to return to the organization on a Minor League contract, a source confirmed on Wednesday.
Ackley will receive a Spring Training invitation to Major League camp, which opens on Feb. 11, pending a physical exam. The club has not confirmed the deal.
The 30-year-old hasn't played in the Majors since 2016 with the Yankees, but he hit .286/.378/.397 with four homers and 39 RBIs in 72 games for the Angels' Triple-A Salt Lake City affiliate in 2018.
Ackley split time between first and second base as well as left field last season, which was his second straight year with Salt Lake.
After being selected with the second overall pick in the 2009 MLB Draft out of North Carolina, Ackley played four and a half seasons with the Mariners from 2011-15, posting a .243/.306/.366 line with 42 home runs and 201 RBIs.
Ackley was traded to the Yankees in midseason of 2015, but he played just 41 games in a pair of injury plagued seasons while batting .212/.283/.381 with four homers and 15 RBIs. He was drafted as a second baseman, but Ackley converted to the outfield in his third season with the Mariners, and he has played both infield and outfield since.
