NEW YORK -- Mariners shortstop Jean Segura, a driving force for the club all season, was sidelined for Thursday's series finale with the Yankees due to an infection in his right forearm.
"It was some kind of scratch or bug bite or pimple or whatever you want to call it, but it got infected and is pretty swollen and was bothering him a little bit yesterday," Seattle manager Scott Servais said. "He's on some antibiotics, so hopefully he'll be better in a day or two. But we have to be careful with it."
Utility man Andrew Romine took Segura's place in the lineup, marking the first time in his Major League career he's started a game against his younger brother, Yankees catcher Austin Romine. The two have been on the field together at the same time in an MLB game just once before, in 2016, when Andrew was used as a pinch-runner for the Tigers in a game when Austin was behind the plate.

Segura went 1-for-8 in the first two games of the series, and he ranks fifth in the Majors with a .334 batting average.
Vincent to come off DL on Friday
Reliever Nick Vincent's scheduled rehab appearance for Double-A Arkansas was rained out Wednesday, but the veteran right-hander threw a simulated inning under cover instead, and he will still come off the 10-day disabled list and join the Mariners for their series opener on Friday in Boston.
Vincent has been on the DL for three and a half weeks with a strained right groin. With fellow setup man Juan Nicasio also coming off the DL this week after dealing with a swollen knee, Servais is happy to see his bullpen getting back to full strength.

"Just looking back, we've had a few hiccups in the bullpen, and guys haven't been quite as consistent as they had been in the last 10 days or so," Servais said. "We were rolling so good for so long. We've won a lot of games because of those guys, just a bump in the road for a few of them. But they're our guys, and we like their stuff."
Nicasio hit two batters in his first inning back during Wednesday's 7-5 loss, but he recovered and didn't allow any runs.
"It was good to get Nicasio back out there," Servais said. "His timing was certainly off, but just getting him through the inning was big."
The road doesn't get any easier
Seattle will see some outstanding pitching when it faces Boston in a three-game weekend series at Fenway Park. The Mariners will take on knuckleballer Steven Wright on Friday, followed by tough lefty Eduardo Rodriguez on Saturday and ace Chris Sale on Sunday.
That trio is a combined 17-6 with a 2.79 ERA, and it comes on the heels of some strong Yankees pitching as well, including ace Luis Severino in Thursday's series finale.
"This is what you get. It's the big leagues. It's the best in the world, and you're going to face tough pitching," Servais said. "There's a reason these teams have the records they have. Their pitching gives them a chance. They're always in a ballgame, and those two clubs have very good offenses, as well."
The Mariners will counter with Wade LeBlanc, Mike Leake and Marco Gonzales in the Red Sox series. LeBlanc just blanked Boston 1-0 with two hits over 7 2/3 innings last Saturday in Seattle, and he will face Wright in a repeat of that pitchers' duel.
