SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for minor league infielder Ty Kelly.

The Mariners 40-man roster was not affected by this trade and remains at 39.

The right-hander was originally drafted by the Cardinals in the 5th round of the 2011 June Amateur Draft out of Oregon State University. He pitched for Salt River during the 2013 Arizona Fall League, making six starts after missing 3 ½ months of the 2013 season due to a right forearm strain.

In six minor league seasons with Baltimore and Seattle, he is a career .282 (728x2577) hitter with 123 doubles, 14 triples, 39 home runs and 336 RBI in 703 games. He was acquired by Seattle in June of 2013 in exchange for outfielder Eric Thames.
