Mariners' Diaz tosses immaculate inning

MESA, Ariz. -- It's only Spring Training, but 's seventh inning wasn't just good, it was immaculate.
The right-hander struck out the side on nine pitches, one of the highlights in the Mariners' 6-2 victory over the A's on Thursday night.

"You don't see it very often," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "That's why you come to the ballpark every night. Sometimes, you see things you don't get a chance to see too often. He's special. The stuff has been really good and the command has been good the last couple of times out."
was called out on strikes for the first out of the inning and Jake Smolinski struck out swinging. Josh Phegley was called out on strikes for the third out.

"[Diaz has] a good idea where the ball is going," Servais said. "There are times he gets in ruts and starts spraying it around, but that's not the case at all right now."
Diaz has allowed two runs in six innings this spring. He has walked two batters and struck out eight.
