The Seattle Mariners are once again joining with KIRO Radio 97.3 FM and Northwest Harvest for the annual food and donations drive at Safeco Field known as Fight Hunger Night.
On Saturday, June 16, when the Mariners take on the Boston Red Sox, volunteers will be outside all the entrances to the ballpark accepting donations of cash and non-perishable food items. Game time on Saturday 5:15 p.m. (due to the FOX national television broadcast). Donations are also being accepted online at Northwestharvest.org.
Northwest Harvest is the largest independent hunger relief agency in the state of Washington. One in eight Washingtonians lives in poverty and on average, Northwest Harvest provides over two million meals to those in need each month. Through partnerships and buying leverage, the agency is able to provide nutritious meals to a family of four for less than 25 cents per meal.
Suggested non-perishable food donations include oatmeal, whole grain pasta, canned vegetables, canned fruit, fish or meat, shelf-stable milk, baby formula, infant cereal, jarred baby food, powdered or canned milk. Cash donations are also appreciated as they allow Northwest Harvest to purchase fresh produce that supplements canned products available at food banks.
