Mariners reinstate from the 60-day DL and option RHP Dan Altavilla to AAA Tacoma

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced Wednesday the following roster moves: · Dan Altavilla, RHP, recalled from rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma, reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned to AAA Tacoma. · Juan Nicasio, RHP, transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced Wednesday the following roster moves:
·         Dan Altavilla, RHP, recalled from rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma, reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned to AAA Tacoma.
·         Juan Nicasio, RHP, transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
Seattle's Major League, 40-man, remains at 40 players.
Altavilla, 25, was originally placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow UCL sprain on June 8 (retro to 6/7) before being transferred to the 60-day DL on July 31. Since beginning a rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on Aug. 15, he is 0-2 with a 17.18 ERA (7 ER, 3.2 IP) with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks in 5 appearances, including 1 start. In addition, he was optioned to AAA Tacoma May 23-27. Overall, he is 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA (7 ER, 4.2 IP) with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks in 7 games (1 start) with the Rainiers this season. In 22 relief appearances with the Mariners this season, he is 3-2 with 5 holds and a 2.61 ERA (6 ER, 20.2 IP). He has struck out 23 and walked 15 while limiting opponents to a .162 (11x68) average against. He has made 2 trips to the disabled list this season: May 1-12 with right AC joint inflammation and June 7 - Aug. 29 with a right elbow UCL sprain.
Over parts of 3 Major League seasons with the Mariners (2016-current), Altavilla is 4-3 with a 3.28 ERA (29 ER, 79.2 IP) with 85 strikeouts and 36 walks in 78 relief appearances. He was originally selected by Seattle in the 5th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Mercyhurst (PA) College.
Nicasio, 32, was originally placed on the 10-day disabled list with right knee inflammation on Aug. 3. He has appeared in 46 games with the Mariners this season, posting a record of 1-6 with 19 holds, 1 save and a 6.00 ERA (28 ER, 42.0 IP) with 53 strikeouts and 5 walks. He has allowed half (14) of his earned runs in just 4 appearances this season (1.1 IP); in his other 42 games he's posted a 3.10 ERA (14 ER, 40.2 IP). He has made 2 trips to the DL this season: June 7-18 with right knee effusion and Aug. 3 - current with right knee inflammation.
In 2017, Nicasio was tied for the NL lead with a career-high 76 appearances and was T9th in NL in holds (21), 12th among relievers in WHIP (1.08) and 14th in ERA (2.61). He has appeared in parts of 8 Major League seasons with Colorado (2011-14), Los Angeles-NL (2015), Pittsburgh (2016-17), Philadelphia (2017), St. Louis (2017) and Seattle (2018-c) after originally signing with Colorado as a non-drafted free agent on Aug. 21, 2006. He has a career mark of 38-43 with 8 saves and a 4.64 ERA (346 ER, 671.2 IP) with 622 strikeouts and 237 walks in 315 career games (82 starts).
