Mariners reinstate RHP Erasmo Ramírez from disabled list

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:
•    Erasmo Ramírez, RHP, reinstated from the 10-day disabled list and recalled from rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma.
•    Nick Rumbelow, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 8/11).
Ramírez (#31) will be in uniform and is scheduled to be the starting pitcher in today's (11:10 am PT / 1:10 pm CT) game vs. the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. 
Ramírez, 28, was placed on the 10-day disabled list for the second time this season with a right Teres Major strain on May 1 after making 2 starts for the Mariners. He made 7 rehab starts with High-A Modesto (1), AA Arkansas (1) and AAA Tacoma (5), combining to go 0-2 record with a 2.45 ERA (7 ER, 25.2 IP) with 26 strikeouts and 4 walks. He has allowed just 1 home run in the minor leagues this season. Ramírez made 2 starts with the Mariners after being activated from the 10-day disabled list on April 22. In his 2 starts with Seattle this season, he was 0-2 with a 10.24 ERA (11 ER, 9.2 IP). The 5-foot-10, 215-pound right-hander was originally placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder-latissimus dorsi strain on March 28 (retroactive to March 26). 
 
Ramírez split the 2017 season between Tampa Bay and Seattle, combining for a record of 5-6 with a 4.39 ERA (64 ER, 131.1 IP) with 109 strikeouts and 31 walks in 37 games (19 starts). He was acquired by the Mariners from the Rays in exchange for RHP Steve Cishek on July 28, 2017. In 7 Major League seasons with Seattle (2012-14, '17-c) and Tampa Bay (2015-17), he is 30-37 with 3 saves and a 4.29 ERA (287 ER, 601.2 IP) with 469 strikeouts and 170 walks in 184 games (84 starts). Ramírez was traded by Seattle to Tampa Bay on March 31, 2015 in exchange for LHP Mike Montgomery. The native of Rivas, Nicaragua, was signed by Seattle in 2007 and made his Major League debut with the Mariners in 2012.
Rumbelow, 26, did not make an appearance with the Mariners after being recalled from AAA Tacoma on Aug. 9 for his third stint with Seattle this season (also: 6/14-22, 7/4-12). Rumeblow has no record in 8 games with the Mariners in 2018, striking out 8 in 10.1 IP while allowing 9 earned runs (8.16 ERA). The 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander has made 10 relief appearances for Tacoma this season, recording 1 save while posting a 2.25 ERA (3 ER, 12.0 IP). He split the 2017 season between AA Trenton and AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees system, where he was a combined 5-1 with 6 saves and a 1.12 ERA (5 ER, 40.1 IP) in 25 relief appearances.
Rumbelow has appeared in the Majors with New York-AL (2015) and Seattle (2018) and is a combined 1-1, 5.54 (16 ER, 26.0 IP) in 25 relief appearances. He was drafted by New York-AL in the 7th round of the 2013 amateur draft out of Louisiana State University. Rumbelow was acquired by the Mariners from the Yankees in exchange for minor leaguers JP Sears (lhp) and Juan Then (rhp) on Nov. 18, 2017.
