Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today the following roster moves:

  • RHP Josh Kinney selected from AAA Tacoma.
  • RHP Erasmo Ramirez placed on 15-day disabled list with a right elbow flexor strain.
  • C Adam Moore designated for assignment.

Kinney (#53) will be in uniform for today’s game vs. the Red Sox (1:10 pm) at Safeco Field.

Kinney, 33, was 1-0 with 3 saves and a 2.70 ERA (11 ER, 36.2 IP) in 27 relief appearances with AAA Tacoma. He has limited opponents to a .268 (37x138) average, while walking 11 and striking out 38. Kinney has held opponents scoreless in 21 of 27 games, including 13 of his last 15 relief appearances. Since May 13, he is 1-0 with 2 saves and a 1.80 ERA (4 ER, 20.0 IP). During this stretch 15-game stretch he has lowered his season ERA from 3.78 to 2.70.

Kinney was signed with the Mariners as a Minor League free agent on Dec. 12, 2011. He is 1-0 with a 5.12 ERA (37 ER, 65.0 IP) in 58 games in the Major Leagues with St. Louis (2006, 2008-09) and Chicago-AL (2011).  In 12 seasons in the minor leagues, Kinney is 34-34 with 65 saves and a 2.78 ERA (189 ER, 612.2 IP) in 477 games (3 starts).

Ramirez, 22, left last night’s game with discomfort in his right elbow in the third inning after throwing a first-pitch strike to Boston's catcher Mike Aviles. In two stints with the Mariners this season, Ramirez is 0-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 11 games, 4 starts with the Mariners this season. He returned to Seattle from Tacoma on June 13 as a starter, after going 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA (13 ER, 37.2 IP) in 7 starts with the Rainiers. Ramirez was on the Mariners Opening Day roster, and made 7 appearances out of the bullpen (2.45 ERA) before being optioned to Tacoma on May 5 (Shawn Kelley recalled).

Moore, 28, has had two stints on the disabled list this season, most recently after having his second surgery in two years to repair a medial meniscus tear in his right knee (April 17-June 8). In 24 games this season with Tacoma, Moore is batting .209 (18x86) with 10 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 home runs and 11 RBI.
