Marlins add Ozuna, three others to 40-man roster

MIAMI -- Marcell Ozuna, a power-hitting outfielder ranked by as the Marlins' No. 8 prospect, will get a chance to impress for Miami during Spring Training.

Ozuna, 22, was one of four players Miami added to its 40-man roster on Tuesday afternoon. The Dominican Republic native is joined by catcher Kyle Skipworth, outfielder Kyle Jensen and lefty reliever Edgar Olmos.

MLB teams had until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday to set their 40-man rosters in anticipation of the Rule 5 Draft, which will take place on Dec. 6 during the final morning of the Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn.

Miami now has 37 players on its 40-man roster.

Ozuna projects to open 2013 at Double-A Jacksonville, but he is one of the organization's most interesting prospects. He's a right-handed hitter with power. In 129 games last season for Class A Jupiter, he belted 24 home runs and drove in 95 runs.

This will be Ozuna's first Spring Training in big league camp.

Skipworth, the sixth overall pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, is still looking to progress to the next level. A left-handed-hitting catcher, Skipworth has been inconsistent at the plate. The 22-year-old batted .217 at Jacksonville last year, while belting 21 home runs and driving in 63 runs.

Jensen, 24, has some experience in big league Spring Training. He spent last year with Jacksonville, batting .234 with 24 home runs and 84 RBIs.

Olmos is a 6-foot-5 lefty who has been used as a starter and reliever. A third-round pick in 2008, he opened '12 in Jupiter, logging 89 1/3 innings. He finished the year at Jacksonville, going 0-1 with an 0.54 ERA in 16 2/3 innings.
