Miami can't capitalize after Redmond's successful challenge loads bases
ATLANTA -- Marlins manager Mike Redmond successfully challenged a forceout of Marcell Ozuna at second during a Miami rally that ultimately fell short in the top of the eighth on Monday night at Turner Field.
With the Marlins trailing the Braves, 2-1, Giancarlo Stanton hit a grounder to shortstop with men on first and second and one out. Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons scooped up the grounder and tossed it to Dan Uggla at second to attempt a double play.
Uggla, however, couldn't control the ball. Second-base umpire Marvin Hudson originally called Ozuna out, but Redmond exited the dugout to issue a challenge. Three minutes and 40 seconds later, umpires overturned the call.
Despite winning the challenge, the Marlins were unable to capitalize after loading the bases with one out. Jordan Walden struck out Casey McGehee and got Garrett Jones to ground out to end the threat and preserve Atlanta's lead.
