Seth Smith's triple to right field, which went in and out of the glove of Giancarlo Stanton at the wall, was put to a crew chief review. Smith stopped at third base with a triple, and umpires said the call stands on review.

With two outs in the third inning and the Padres leading 2-0 on Jedd Gyorko's two-run home run in the second, Smith lifted a long fly ball to right field that kept carrying. Stanton made a leaping attempt at the ball at the wall and nearly caught it, as the ball went in and out of his glove, straight up in the air, before settling on the field.

San Diego manager Bud Black came out to the field, but officially, this was a crew chief review. After umpires said the call stands, the inning pressed on, with Fernandez getting the final out to strand Smith at third.
