Held out of starting lineup, Morrison strikes out in ninth

PHOENIX -- With the Marlins playing a day game Wednesday after a night game Tuesday, Logan Morrison was out of the lineup in his club's 3-1 loss to the D-backs.

The first baseman played the first two games of the series after missing the previous four contests with back tightness.

Trailing, 3-1, in the top of the ninth, Morrison pinch-hit with the tying run at first base, but he took a called strike three from closer Heath Bell to end the game.

Following offseason surgery on his right knee, Morrison made his season debut on June 9 and went 4-for-9 with six total bases in his first three games before tweaking his back on June 11 vs. the Brewers.

Morrison collected a pair of hits Tuesday night and is batting .353 in 17 at-bats.
