MIAMI -- Spring Training 2020 for the Marlins promises to be one of the most competitive and compelling camps in years.

With a vastly improved farm system, filled with many prominent prospects knocking on the big league door, there should be plenty of attention when camp opens at the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complex in Jupiter, Fla.

On Monday, MLB and the Marlins generated some early spring fever by announcing the 2020 Spring Training schedule.

Miami's pitchers and catchers will report on Feb. 12 and full-squad workouts are set for Feb. 17.

There’s a twist in the Marlins’ Grapefruit League schedule because for the first time since 2006, when they took on the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale, the Marlins will be opening game action away from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

On Feb. 22, Miami will get things going vs. the Mets in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

In 2020, the Marlins will open their 18th season at the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complex. In all, they will have 15 home games, and 19 games total at Jupiter, with four as the road team against the Cardinals, who share the complex.

There are 31 total Spring Training games for the Marlins before Opening Day on March 26 against the Phillies at Marlins Park.

Miami’s first home game in Spring Training will be on Feb. 23 against the Nationals. There’s a bit of trivia attached to playing the Nationals in their home opener. It’s the first time since 2008 that the Marlins have opened at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium against someone other than the Cardinals. That year was also the Nationals.

Miami plays the Cardinals, its Jupiter rivals, for the first time on Feb. 24, as the home team.

Spring Training comes to a close for the Marlins in Jupiter on March 22, which also is a split-squad day. They will take on the Astros in Jupiter, as well as the Mets at Port St. Lucie.

Spring Training 2020 will be an opportunity for the organization, and fans, to see many newcomers to the organization.

Sixto Sanchez, rated by MLB Pipeline as the club’s top prospect, is expected to be in his first big league camp. Sanchez was acquired from the Phillies this year as part of the J.T. Realmuto trade, but the right-hander started off in Minor League camp.

First-round pick, outfielder JJ Bleday, also is likely to be in big league camp. Before the July 31 MLB Trade Deadline, the Marlins made three trades that landed them some high-end prospects. Shortstop Jazz Chisholm, was acquired from Arizona for right-hander Zac Gallen. First baseman Lewin Diaz was part of a trade with the Twins for Sergio Romo. And outfielder Jesus Sanchez was acquired from Tampa Bay in a deal for right-handers Trevor Richards and Nick Anderson.

Chisholm, Diaz and Sanchez are expected to be in MLB camp. All three are getting closer to being big league ready.
