Marlins to provide 2,000 Election Day meals

Club partners with UNKNWN for auction to benefit 'Feed The Polls'

October 26th, 2020

With Election Day coming soon on Nov. 3, the Marlins have partnered with UNKNWN for a “Feed The Polls” initiative that will provide 2,000 meals to select Miami polling locations in Liberty City and Little Havana.

The program is a continuation of the Marlins’ efforts to raise awareness for social justice and racial equality.

UNKNWN, in cooperation with the Marlins, has designed a customized T-shirt that goes on sale Monday.

A Miami-based community platform, apparel label and retail concept destination, UNKNWN has created a lifestyle shirt that will benefit “Feed The Polls,” the Miami Marlins Foundation’s Voting Initiative.

The shirts will be available beginning Monday, exclusively at UNKNWN’s Wynwood store and online at UNKNWN.com and the Miami Marlins Foundation Promote The Vote Auction website.

Priced at $30, the shirts will say: “One City. One Team. United.”

Along with the exclusive UNKNWN shirt, the Promote The Vote Auction will offer fans the chance to bid on custom-painted Jordan 1 and Nike Air Force 1 sneakers designed by local South Florida artist and firefighter Julian Reams featuring unique social justice themes on each pair. Additional auction items will include authentic game-worn Negro Leagues throwback Miami Giants jerseys and 2020 Marlins game-used memorabilia.

“We continue to stand with our community during this critical time, recognizing that amazing things can be accomplished when we are united,” Michael Shaw, Marlins vice president of experience and innovation, said in a statement. “We are excited to partner with UNKNWN, who shares our passion in making an impact across South Florida as we focus on social justice, racial equality and the importance of voting. This initiative will help provide healthy meals for some of our at-risk community members and hopefully remove a point of friction as voters participate on Election Day.”

Co-founded by LeBron James, Jaron Kanfer and Frankie Walker Jr. in 2011, UNKNWN is a cultural and community platform with the objective of connecting brands to consumers through personal experiences, curated products and communal accessibility. UNKNWN operates two fashion labels designed for contemporary and active use, a community event venue, an experiential retail store and weekly Fit Club workout classes.

“Exercising the right to vote is crucial in order to build a better future for our communities. Partnering with the Marlins Foundation’s Voting Initiative with Feed The Polls, we can support our neighbors and provide a sense of meal relief to those who need it on Election Day,” Kanfer said in a statement. "Alongside the Miami Marlins, this Nov. 3 we want to encourage everyone to get out and vote."
