WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Marlins center fielder Lewis Brinson was hit in the helmet flap with a relay throw after hitting a triple to right field in the fifth inning of Thursday's 15-7 win over the Astros.
Brinson hit a long fly ball that nearly cleared the right-field fence. As he raced around the bases and slid into third, the relay throw hit him flush on the left flap of his helmet.
"Whoever doesn't have a flap needs to get one, because that probably could have messed up my face pretty good," said a relieved Brinson, who was taken out of the game for precautionary measures with Isaac Galloway pinch-running for him. "I'm good, just stung."
Brinson said he would not enter any concussion protocol.

"No, it got me pretty good, kind of scared me for a moment, but no, I'm fine," Brinson said.
Before exiting, Brinson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
"I hit those balls pretty well," Brinson said. "I think I hit the first one a lot better than [the triple]. On this field, with the wind blowing out, I thought I had two homers there."
The Marlins' No. 1 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, said he is ready for Opening Day.
"My swing is where it needs to be right now," Brinson said. "Hopefully I can keep it going into the season starting next week."
