Marlins Park to host inaugural Miami Bowl in 2014

MIAMI -- Marlins Park will be adding some college football spirit.

The retractable-roof facility will be the home of the inaugural Miami Bowl, to debut in 2014. More details of the event will be revealed on Thursday at a news conference at Marlins Park.

The Marlins, along with the American Athletic Conference, will jointly announce the event.

The Miami Bowl will feature one team from the American Athletic Conference. The opponent will be a team from one of these four conferences -- Conference USA, Mid-American Conference, Mountain West Conference and Sun Belt Conference.

Marlins Park, located in the Little Havana section of Miami, stands on the grounds of the old Orange Bowl, the former home of the University of Miami. The state-of-the-art Marlins Park seats 36,000 for baseball. The Marlins moved into their new home in 2012.

The ballpark was designed to be able to attract events such as football. Soccer has already been held at the venue.
