MIAMI -- The Marlins on Friday honored two of their top prospects, as right-hander Luis Castillo and third baseman Brian Anderson were selected as the organization's Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year, respectively.
Anderson, according to MLBPipeline.com, is Miami's No. 4-rated prospect, and Castillo ranks fifth. The two are trending towards being big league ready, perhaps as early as next year.
Castillo, a hard-throwing right-hander, had an eventful season. He started off at Class A Advanced Jupiter, where he was dominating the Florida State League. However, while the Marlins were contending in the National League standings this summer, Castillo attracted strong interest from opposing clubs.
On July 29, the right-hander was included as part of Miami's trade with San Diego that also sent right-handers Jarred Cosart and Carter Capps and first-base prospect Josh Naylor to the Padres for right-handers Andrew Cashner, Colin Rae and prospect Tayron Guerrero.
But after Rae experienced right elbow issues following his lone start with Miami, the Padres and Marlins agreed to redo part of the trade, and Rae was dealt back to San Diego on Aug. 1 for Castillo.
Castillo was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Year after posting an 8-4 record with a league-leading 2.07 ERA at Jupiter. He allowed three or more earned runs just twice in 23 appearances, which included 21 starts.
Castillo was promoted to Double-A Jacksonville late in the season.
The Marlins acquired Castillo from the Giants in December 2014 as part of the package for Casey McGehee. The right-hander could join Miami next year as a reliever.
Anderson, 23, was a third-round pick of the Marlins in 2014. The former University of Arkansas standout combined for 11 home runs and 65 RBIs at Jupiter and Jacksonville.

Anderson played in 49 games at Jupiter, batting .302 with three homers and 25 RBIs, before being promoted to the Suns, where he belted eight homers and drove in 40.
