Marlins-Rox postponed; doubleheader Wednesday

No. 4-ranked prospect Cabrera slated to make 2022 debut

May 31st, 2022

DENVER -- Tuesday night's game between the Marlins and Rockies at Coors Field was postponed due to rain, and is scheduled to be made up as the second game of a traditional doubleheader that begins at 3:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The second game will begin 45 minutes after the end of the first contest.

Though the club has not yet made an official announcement, the Marlins' No. 4-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline (and No. 48 overall), Edward Cabrera, is expected to start one of the two games Wednesday. Left-hander Trevor Rogers is expected to start the other.

The Marlins signed Cabrera out of the Dominican Republic back in 2015. The 24-year-old right-hander was shut down due to a right biceps injury in early April of this year and didn't make his Minor League season debut until April 27 for Single-A Jupiter. He yielded one hit, struck out seven and walked three over four scoreless innings before posting a 4.56 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 12 walks over five starts for Triple-A Jacksonville (23 2/3 innings).

A biceps issue also sidelined Cabrera last season, with an inflamed nerve delaying his season debut until June 6. He made his Major League debut on Aug. 25 against the Nationals, giving up three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out two over 6 1/3 innings. Overall, he finished with a 5.81 ERA over seven MLB starts in 2021.

Across three levels in the Minors last year -- Single-A through Triple-A -- Cabrera had a 2.93 ERA over 13 starts (61 1/3 innings) and struck out 36.9 percent of the batters he faced, though he also walked 10 percent. He features a fastball that can reach triple digits on the radar gun, and his best secondary offering is a darting slider. He also throws a power curveball and a changeup.

Rogers, meanwhile, will be looking to turn things around after giving up eight runs in nine innings over his last two starts. The Marlins as a team will also be looking for a turnaround as they open the month of June on Wednesday -- after winning 12 of 20 games to begin the season in April, Miami went 7-19 in May.

Of note, only tickets for the original June 1, 1:10 p.m. game will be valid for the doubleheader. The same ticket is good for either or both games in the same designated seat location. Fans will not be required to exit the ballpark between the games.

Tickets from the May 31 game which were purchased directly from the Colorado Rockies will either be credited to their original account or refunded to the credit card from which they were purchased. These ticket holders will be contacted via email with additional details.

Parking lots on Wednesday, June 1 will open at 10:00 a.m. with gates A and E opening at 11:00 a.m. and gates B, C and D opening at 11:30 a.m.

Complimentary tickets have a value of zero dollars and therefore may not be refunded or exchanged for another game.

Discounted tickets are only valid for the amount paid to the Rockies and are subject to any constraints applicable to the original sale.

Secondary market customers for the Tuesday, May 31 game should contact the Customer Service Department from which the purchase was made. Secondary market tickets are not valid for credit/refund or exchange through the Colorado Rockies.
