The Miami Marlins today announced that the club has signed outfielder Cameron Maybin to a one-year contract. He will join the team in Spring Training today. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Maybin, 30, played for the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros last season. He stole 29 bases for the Angels prior to being claimed off waivers by Houston on August 31. With the Astros, he stole four more bases in 21 games down the stretch, while adding four home runs and 13 RBI. Maybin appeared in six postseason games for the World Series champions, and went 1x3 with a stolen base in three games during the Fall Classic. He finished the season ranked second in the American League in steals, behind only Whit Merrifield (34), and was fifth in the Majors.
A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Maybin was selected 10th overall by Detroit in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft. He was acquired by the Marlins following the 2007 season and appeared in 144 games for Florida from 2008-10, batting .257 with 12 home runs, 43 RBI, and 14 steals in that time.
Maybin has eclipsed 20 steals four times in his career, with a high of 40 in 2011 with San Diego. He has a 79-percent stolen base percentage over his career, amassing 164 steals. Maybin's 71 steals since the start of 2015 rank tied with Paul Goldschmidt for 14th in the Majors. Maybin has a .255 career average in 910 Major League games, with 466 runs scored, 134 doubles, 31 triples, 56 home runs, and 287 RBI.
With the addition of Maybin, the 40-man roster is now full.
