Miami Marlins to celebrate Armed Forces Weekend at Marlins Park from May 17-19

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins will honor service members, veterans, and military families on Armed Forces Weekend, May 17-19, at Marlins Park. Throughout the weekend, the Miami Marlins will wear camouflage-designed caps with their uniforms, as well as optional camo-themed socks. The right side of the cap features a five-starred emblem to represent the five branches of the United States Armed Forces. A jersey patch featuring the stars & stripes silhouetted batter will be placed on the left chest for Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

The following is a list of activities taking place this weekend at Marlins Park in celebration of Armed Forces Weekend:

On Friday, May 17, members of the Brigade 2506 (Bay of Pigs), who also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, will be in attendance as the Marlins take on the New York Mets. Individuals from the group will be honored during the game as the Service Members of the Game.

On Saturday, May 18, Marlins players Brian Anderson and Peter O’Brien will play video games with troops stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as well as members from US Southern Command and their families at Marlins Park. (PRIVATE EVENT)

Also on Saturday, May 18, the Miami Marlins have partnered with Operation Warrior Wishes to host warriors and their families for batting practice. The veterans will be honored during an on-field ceremony prior to the game.

On Sunday, May 19, the Miami Marlins will host five Gold Star families. The term “Gold Star” describe a family member who has lost a loved one in military service. The families will be honored and recognized in an on-field ceremony prior to the game.

Fans can purchase the camouflage-designed Marlins cap at Marlins Park, and online at Marlins.com. Proceeds will be donated to MLB Charities – used to support programs for service members, veterans and military families.
