MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today acquired OF Bryan De La Cruz and RHP Austin Pruitt from the Houston Astros in exchange for RHP Yimi Garcia.
De La Cruz, 24, is hitting .324 with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs in 66 games for Triple-A Sugar Land this season, his first campaign in Triple-A. Among batters in the Triple-A West Division, he ranks seventh in batting average and eighth in RBI. The Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic, native is a career .276 hitter in seven Minor League seasons after signing with the Astros in 2013.
Pruitt, 31, has made two relief appearances with Houston this season, and seven outings (four starts) with Triple-A Sugar Land and Single-A Fayetteville. He is 12-9 with a 4.89 ERA in parts of four Major League seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays (2017-19) and Astros (2021), making 69 appearances (10 starts). Pruitt was a 9th round pick (278th overall) by the Rays in 2013 out of the University of Houston.
