The Miami Marlins and the Miami Marlins Foundation continue giving back to the South Florida community with the return of Impact Week presented by UKG

The week of community impact across South Florida will take place from August 23 through August 29, marking third year of the initiative

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins and Miami Marlins Foundation continue their commitment to making a Marlins Impact across the South Florida community with the return of Impact Week presented by UKG. This year marks the third edition of the community initiative, which launched in 2019 and was held virtually in 2020. Impact Week presented by UKG begins on Monday, August 23 and runs through Sunday, August 29.

The seven days of community impact aims to make a difference with South Florida’s youth by creating opportunities to foster an active lifestyle, achieve academic success, and build leadership skills. The Marlins organization will participate in seven events in seven days.

Fans can join in on the fun with the Impact Week Virtual 5K Run/Walk presented by UKG, an interactive way to stay active and raise money for a great cause. Participants can complete this race at their leisure throughout the week. To learn more or register, fans should visit Marlins.com/5K. The Miami Marlins Foundation will host a silent auction at loanDepot park during the week, with unique items up for bid, including autographed memorabilia.

On each day during Impact Week, the Miami Marlins Foundation will highlight the following three key focus areas: Wellness, Empowerment, and Youth Baseball and Softball. Below please find the list of events during Impact Week presented by UKG:

v Monday, August 23: Cooking at the Plate with Chef Adrianne

o The Miami Marlins Foundation is partnering with Chef Adrianne Calvo to host a cooking demonstration at The Club: DEX Imaging of loanDepot park for students from KIPP Miami. Cooking at the Plate is a hands-on educational cooking demonstration centered around eating healthy. Approximately 25 kids from KIPP Miami learning how to prepare a healthy appetizer, snack, meal and dessert.

v Tuesday, August 24: Kiwanis of Little Havana and Miami Marlins Back to School Distribution at Fairway Elementary in Miramar

o In partnership with Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation, a distribution of school supplies will be held for students in a local Title 1 elementary school to ensure the youth have the necessary tools to excel in the classroom.

v Wednesday, August 25: Home Plate Meals Food Distribution at Charles R. Drew K-8 Center in Liberty City

o In an effort to address food insecurity, the Miami Marlins Foundation will partner with Feeding South Florida to host a Home Plate Meals farmer’s market-style food distribution for students and families at Charles R. Drew K-8 Center.

v Thursday, August 26: Miami Lighthouse for the Blind Experience

o Teens of Miami Lighthouse for the Blind’s Pre-Employment Transition Program will return to loanDepot park for an exciting day at the ballpark. The group was hosted at loanDepot park on August 9 for a beep ball game on the field and a guided touch tour of the ballpark. On Thursday, the teens will enjoy the game from a suite.

v Friday, August 27: Virtual 5K Run/Walk presented by UKG

o The 5K package includes a Marlins mystery bobblehead, race T-shirt and medal

o Race can be completed starting August 23 through August 29

v Saturday, August 28: Baseball and Softball Field Day presented by Nike at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium

o An instructional and mentoring clinic led by Marlins Minor League players will be hosted for local youth. The clinic will be divided into skills stations and a mentoring station, providing the participants with opportunities to learn baseball fundamentals while receiving guidance from the players. The Marlins will provide equipment for the event to alleviate costs for participants.

v Sunday, August 29: Celebrating a Young Gamechanger

o (FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY) The Marlins are hosting Oliver from Oliver Patch Project for a one-of-a-kind experience full of surprises. Oliver, a local nine-year old boy who is battling Acute Lymphobiastic Leukemia, turned his challenge into an opportunity to be a gamechanger and help others with the power of positivity. Through the Oliver Patch Project, other kids can receive patches to lift up their spirits and celebrate important medical milestones. On the visit, Oliver will be surprised to meet a Marlins player who will help him design a Marlins-themed patch! Oliver will then take the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Miami Marlins Foundation makes an impact year-round by creating opportunities for youth to stay active, achieve academic success, and build leadership skills.

v The Foundation has distributed more than 1 Million meals since the launch of the Home Plate Meal Relief Fund program at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

v The empowerment programs have impacted over 50,000 students, providing access and opportunity to our youth through college scholarships and leadership development opportunities, along with 43,000 students provided with online educational resources during the pandemic.

v The sports-based youth development programs have impacted over 90,000 youth in South Florida, utilizing baseball and softball as the vehicle to provide kids with life-changing social and emotional learning experiences.
