Miami Marlins sign LHP Ross Detwiler

Announce additional Minor League signings with invites to Major League Spring Training

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today signed LHP Ross Detwiler to a one-year contract. Detwiler pitched in 16 games out of the bullpen for the Chicago White Sox in 2020, going 1-1 with a 3.20 ERA in 44.0 innings while limiting lefties to just a .194 average. He began the season with a 12.1-inning scoreless streak and retired his first 16 batters he faced.

The 34-year-old was the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft by the Washington Nationals and has pitched in parts of 12 Major League seasons, going 27-48 with a 4.56 ERA in 224 games (95 starts). As a reliever, he is 5-6 with a 4.80 ERA in 129 appearances, collecting one save. In 75 appearances (29 starts) against National League East division foes, Detwiler owns 13-9, 3.40 career marks, with a .249 opponent average.

To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP Stephen Tarpley was designated for assignment.
