NEW YORK -- 's Cy Young push will have to wait another day … again. The Mets and Marlins have postponed Monday's game at Citi Field due to rain, with a single-admission doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday beginning at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Originally scheduled to start Sunday against the Phillies, deGrom was a late scratch due to the rainy forecast at Citi Field. Instead, started a game that, after a brief delay, was never interrupted due to rain and was won by the home team, 6-4.

A day later, the Mets and Marlins postponed their series opener approximately four hours prior to first pitch, due to significant rain accumulation at Citi. Rather than start, deGrom played a light game of catch in the outfield in preparation for a Tuesday start against Miami.

The consecutive rainouts will likely cost deGrom an outing as he looks to lock down the National League Cy Young award. For deGrom to pitch five more times at this point, he will need to go at least once on short rest -- something that would not have been necessary had he started Monday, and a strategy one Mets official classified as "doubtful." deGrom is already just 13 1/3 innings shy of matching his career high, which he set last season, and is under team control for two more years.

The loss of a start could have implications on the NL Cy Young race. Already leading the league by significant margins in innings and strikeouts, Max Scherzer now has as many starts remaining as deGrom. , another contender for the award, also has four starts remaining.

deGrom's trump card, however, may be the fact that he leads ERA and several other run-prevention categories by significant margins. His 1.68 ERA is fifth-lowest in the Majors among qualified pitchers since the mound was lowered to its current height in 1969.

In Tuesday's 7:10 p.m. ET makeup at Citi Field, deGrom is slated to face right-hander , but more rain is in the forecast throughout the day.

Everyone else in the Mets' rotation will shift back a day, with Zack Wheeler and starting respective games in Wednesday's doubleheader. The team will need to choose a spot starter -- perhaps Oswalt -- for Saturday's game in Boston.

Fans with tickets to Monday's game can exchange them for comparably priced tickets to any remaining home game, including Wednesday's doubleheader. Monday's tickets are not automatically valid for Wednesday's games unless exchanged.
