Mets call up Tovar to add depth at shortstop

PHILADELPHIA -- When the Mets lost shortstop Ruben Tejada to a broken right leg, they were left with just one shortstop -- Friday night starter Omar Quintanilla -- on the game roster. To add depth, the Mets recalled Wilfredo Tovar from Double-A Binghamton. Tovar arrived at Citizens Bank Park earlier in the day.

"We'll get him in there," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "You know he just flew in today, but I'll play him Sunday."

Tovar is a defensive shortstop with a strong arm who hit .263 with Binghamton this year. He is already on the Mets' 40-man roster.
