Mets select catcher Jose Lobaton

The New York Mets today announced that the club has selected the contract of catcher Jose Lobaton and designated RHP Scott Copeland for assignment.

The New York Mets today announced that the club has selected the contract of catcher Jose Lobaton and designated RHP Scott Copeland for assignment. Lobaton will wear #59 and will be available for tonight's game vs. the Cubs.
 
Lobaton, 33, hit .152 (7-46) with two doubles, one triple and three RBI in 18 games with the Mets. Lobaton signed a minor league contract on December 15, 2017. He had his contract selected on April 13. Lobaton was designated for assignment on May 19. He cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League on May 21.
 
The 6-1, 205-pounder hit .371 (13-35) with two doubles, two homers and 10 RBI in 10 games for the 51s this year.
 
Lobaton has hit .216 (244-1,131) with 47 doubles, 21 homers and 106 RBI in 409 major league games with the Mets, Nationals, Padres and Rays.
 
Copeland, 30, tossed 1.1 innings last night vs. the Cubs in his first major league appearance since 2015. He was signed to a minor league contract on April 18 and had his contract selected on May 30.
