Mets select outfielder Andrew Brown, option outfielder Collin Cowgill

The New York Mets today announced the club selected the contract of outfielder Andrew Brown from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and optioned outfielder Collin Cowgill to the 51s. Brown will wear #47 and will be available for tonight's game in Atlanta.

Brown, 28, hit .367 (36-98) with two home runs, 13 doubles and 27 RBI in 25 games for Las Vegas. His 13 doubles lead the PCL. He was riding an 11-game hitting streak, dating to April 18, during which he hit .391 (18-46) with 16 RBI and five multi-hit games.

Brown appeared in 46 games last season with Colorado, hitting .232 (26-112) with five home runs and 11 RBI. His only other major league action came in 2011 with St. Louis, where he hit .182 (4-22) in 11 games. He is a .224 (30-134) career hitter in 57 big league games.

Cowgill hit .157 (8-51) with two home runs and eight RBI in 19 games for the Mets.
