The New York Mets announced today that the club has signed catcher Devin Mesoraco to a minor league contract and invited him to major league Spring Training.
"Devin is greatly respected among our pitching staff and is extremely well prepared," Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said. "We are hopeful he can contribute in 2019."
Mesoraco, 30, has appeared in 468 major league games across eight seasons with the Cincinnati Reds and the Mets. He began the 2018 season with the Reds, before being acquired by the Mets in exchange for RHP Matt Harvey on May 8. Overall, in 84 games last year Mesoraco hit .221/.303/.398 with 24 runs, 10 doubles, 11 home runs, 33 RBI and 25 walks. 
Mesoraco was a 2014 NL All-Star after hitting 25 homers and driving in 80 runs for the Reds.
Mesoraco owns a .232/.309/.406 career slash line with 152 runs, 66 doubles, two triples, 58 homers, 192 RBI and 138 walks. He has thrown out 24% (72-for-300) of runners attempting to steal. 
The right-handed hitting catcher was originally drafted by Cincinnati in the first round (15th overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Punxsutawney High School in Pennsylvania.
