Mets sign RHP Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league contract

The New York Mets today announced the club has signed righthanded reliever Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.

Farnsworth, 37, has pitched 15 years in the majors, appearing in 858 games. He was 3-1 with two saves and a 4.70 ERA (20 earned runs/38.1 innings) in 48 combined games with the Rays and Pirates last year.

The 6-4, 230-pounder has recorded 54 career saves, including a season-high 25 in 2011 with Tampa Bay.

Farnsworth is 43-63 with a 4.26 ERA (454 earned runs/960.0 innings) with almost a strikeout per inning (945 strikeouts/960.0 innings) during his career with the Cubs, Rays, Yankees, Royals, Braves, Tigers and Pirates.
