Curve Offense Overpowers Baysox in 14-10 Slugfest

Easton Carmichael drove in five runs in first career multi-homer game.

CURVE, Pa.Easton Carmichael recorded his first career multi-homer game and drove in five in a 14-10 win over the Chesapeake Baysox on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Lonnie White Jr. started the home run party with a solo shot in the first, and Titus Dumitru capped off an eight-run second with a three-run shot. The eight-run second inning was the most runs scored in an inning this season and knocked out Chesapeake starter Sebastian Gongora. Altoona’s eight-run inning was the first for the team since April 12, 2023, when the Curve defeated the Erie SeaWolves, 17-6.

Easton Carmichael recorded his first Double-A homer with a solo homer to lead off the fifth, and Omar Alfonzo added a solo homer later in the same inning to give the Curve an 11-5 lead after five frames.

Carmichael continued the power surge with a two-run shot in the eighth inning to put the final touches on the 14-10 win after Chesapeake rallied for five runs in the top of the eighth.

Peyton Stumbo matched his career-long with 6.0 innings pitched and struck out a career-high nine hitters on his way to his second win of the season. Stumbo scattered eight hits, walked one, and picked up two strikeouts in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Stumbo threw 102 pitches, 64 strikes, and the first Curve arm this season to reach the century mark.

Kyle Larsen came on in reliefof Stumbo in the seventh and allowed three unearned runs across 1.1 innings before turning the ball over to Jake Shirk. Shirk sat the Baysox down with a scoreless ninth inning to wrap up the victory.

The five home runs in a game set a season-high, one shy of the franchise record. Altoona leads the Eastern League with 24 home runs since the All-Star break; White Jr. has homered six times since July 17. Overall, this season the Curve have hit 108 homers in 99 games. Altoona’s franchise record for home runs in a season is 143, set in 2022.

Altoona faces Chesapeake in game four of the series on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Altoona will send RHP Matt Ager to the mound to face LHP Joeseph Dzierwa for the Baysox.
