CURVE, Pa. – Easton Carmichael swatted his third Double-A home run, a two-run shot to tie the game in the second inning, but Altoona was walked off in Binghamton on Tuesday night, 4-3, at Mirabito Stadium.
Altoona entered the bottom of the ninth inning with a 3-2 lead. Justin Meis, who tossed 29 pitches and worked around traffic in the eighth, struck out Kevin Parada to open the ninth inning before Mitch Voit was hit by a pitch. Marco Vargas followed with a single before Jefferson Rojas doubled home the game’s tying run. It was the third run batted in for Rojas, who launched a two-run home run in the first inning.
Meis intentionally walked Jacob Reimer before Chris Suero walked it off with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Curve starter Peyton Stumbo tossed 3.2 innings, allowing the two-run home run to Rojas on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Cristhian Tortosa tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief before Andrew Moore and Jaycob Deese each delivered scoreless innings with two strikeouts apiece.
It was the 19th home run of the season for Carmichael, who hit 16 with High-A Greensboro to begin the season. He finished the game with two hits, along with Titus Dumitru and Jesus Castillo.
Altoona continues its six-game series at Binghamton on Wednesday night at 6:07 p.m. RHP Matt Ager will start on the mound for the Curve with RHP Dakota Hawkins slated to start for the Rumble Ponies.
