Erie Rallies for 10-7 Win over Curve

Murf Gray extended his on-base streak to 15 games with a two-run homer in the fourth

ERIE, Pa. – The Erie SeaWolves scored ten unanswered runs and earned a 10-7 win over the Curve on Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Park.

The Curve batted around and scored seven times in the fourth inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead after four innings. Murf Gray started the big inning with a two-run homer, his fourth with the Curve in 15 games. Gray holds .894 OPS with Altoona after Wednesday's game; he’s reached base safely in every game with the Curve. Following the homer, Altoona picked up four more hits and a walk before Erie’s starter was lifted from the game. Will Taylor, Javier Rivas and Ryan McCarty recorded consecutive run-scoring doubles in the frame with Keiner Delgado adding another against reliever Yosber Sanchez to put the cherry on top of a seven-run frame. Altoona picked up eight of their ten hits in the inning.

Peyton Stumbo took advantage of the excellent run support in the fourth and cruised through the first four innings of his outing until he allowed three runs, two earned, in the fifth. Stumbo worked into the sixth inning and left with the bases loaded as he handed the ball to Kyle Larsen. Larsen allowed all three inherited runs to score and faced just three hitters before Cy Nielson entered and wrapped up sixth inning on the mound. In all Stumbo allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts on 99 pitches.

Erie took the lead in the seventh with a run off Nielson when E.J. Exposito reached on a fielder’s choice to score Andrew Jenkins. The SeaWolves added two insurance runs with a homer by Josue Briceno in the eighth. The ‘Wolves scored ten times across the fifth to eighth innings to secure the win.

Eight of the nine hitters in the starting lineup recorded a hit in the defeat. Lonnie White Jr. and Callan Moss each had two-hit days at the plate.

Altoona continues their series at Erie on Thursday night at 6:05 p.m. Altoona will send RHP Matt Ager to the mound while the SeaWolves are slated to start LHP Andrew Sears.
