CURVE, Pa. – Altoona and Akron had their game called after six innings due to inclement weather, the RubberDucks secured a 3-2 win over the Curve and ended Altoona’s six-game winning streak.
Murf Gray slammed a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Curve a 2-0 lead. Altoona was held without a baserunner over the first three innings until Keiner Delgado lined a single into right field and cane around on Gray’s homer. Gray has totaled 32 home runs between Greensboro and Altoona, the most by a Pirates minor leaguer this season.
Akron scored three times in the fifth inning on run-scoring singles from Jaison Chourio and Aaron Walton to take a 3-2 lead.
Yonleg Gaetano spun four scoreless frames in his Double-A debut before walking back-to-back hitters to begin the fifth. Both runners came around to score, though, Gaetano showed well in his first outing above Single-A Bradenton. The 21-year-old right-hander struck out a pair and stranded three runners in the first four innings.
Altoona nearly tied the game in the sixth inning before the rains arrived. Jesus Castillo doubled to left-center and advanced to third on a groundout by Callan Moss with one out. Titus Dumitru then stepped up to the plate for the Curve and lined a shot to short where Akron shortstop Alex Mooney made a diving catch for the final out of the inning. The umpire crew called for the tarp after Mooney’s diving catch and called the game due to persistent rain.
Altoona wraps up the 2026 season on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. LHP Connor Oliver will take the mound for Altoona as the RubberDucks send RHP Braylon Doughty to the hill.
