BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies held Altoona to just four hits and three walks in a 4-0 win over the Curve on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium.
Rumble Ponies starter R.J. Gordon tossed six scoreless innings to earn the victory. The Curve were bit by the double play bug in each of the first three innings, negating singles in each inning. Lonnie White Jr. and Callan Moss drew back-to-back walks against Gordon in the fourth, but were stranded at first and second.
Keiner Delgado doubled to leadoff the sixth and advanced to third on a groundout, but was stranded there. Altoona’s offense was stymied by three Binghamton relievers; who combined to strike out three and set down nine straight hitters to finish the game.
Dominic Pipkin started a bullpen day for the Curve, his sixth consecutive outing takes as a starter. Pipkin struggled to work ahead in the count and surrendered three runs on one hit and four walks across the first two innings. Pipkin threw 56 pitches before handing the ball off to Aaron Shortridge who fired a quick, scoreless, third inning. Shortridge allowed a solo homer in the fourth to make it 4-0 Binghamton and wiggled out of trouble in the inning to cover his 2.0 inning outing.
Landon Tomkins, Sean Sullivan and Jarod Bayless combined for five scoreless innings of relief after the fourth allowing just one baserunner with five strikeouts.
Saturday night marked the sixth time this season that Altoona was held scoreless in a game this year. Moss, Delgado, Dumitru and Rivas recorded hits in the game with only Delgado’s going for extra-bases.
Altoona wraps up their series at Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. RHP Peyton Stumbo will start on the mound for the Curve with Binghamton’s starter to be announced.
