AMARILLO, TX (October 27, 2026) – The Amarillo Sod Poodles today revealed The Chiltons as the newest alternate identity for the 2027 season and beyond. The club’s new West Texas lifestyle brand is rooted in local culture and will be featured on-field and around HODGETOWN beginning next year.
Across Minor League Baseball, numerous organizations adopt alternate identities that are featured throughout the course of a regular season as a means to institute something creative, unique, and impactful to each club’s fanbase. While the core identity of the team lives on through the majority of the season, alternate brands serve to offer something different and fun for baseball fans everywhere.
The Sod Poodles are celebrating the cultural makeup of West Texas in a meaningful way by introducing “The Chiltons” as Amarillo’s latest alternate identity and lifestyle brand. With the origin of the infamous concoction rooted in the culture of the area, the Sod Poodles will pay homage to the iconic drink with a brand new look for several home games during the 2027 regular season.
“The city of Amarillo and the greater Panhandle community has its fair share of stories that defines what it means to be from West Texas,” said Amarillo Sod Poodles President and General Manager, Tony Ensor. “As part of this incredible community, we take pride in our hometown and in the people we serve. The Chiltons are the perfect embodiment of that idea. Relating this new lifestyle brand back to this uniquely West Texan drink made all the sense in the world to intentionally connect with our community.”
A common cocktail almost exclusively known to West Texas locals, the Chilton was, according to legend, first ordered in a country club bar by a mysterious guest known as Dr. Chilton. After a round of golf in the hot Texas sun, the doctor asked for a drink which consisted of vodka, lemon juice, and soda water in a salt-rimmed glass. The drink instantly became a hit and has been a staple of West Texas culture ever since. While the recipe has slowly trickled out of the West Texas region and has become known across the nation, the highest concentration of Chilton orders still remains in the greater area of its birthplace.
The Chiltons uniform features a primarily black jersey, black pants, and black cap with red and yellow secondary colors. Features such as bubbling carbonation can be found on the wordmark on the front of the jersey and the numbers on the back. Additionally, the wordmark and primary logo both include a salted rim to mimic a traditional feature of the Chilton. To drive home the West Texas lifestyle encapsulated by the drink, the primary logo on the cap features a Texas-shaped lemon wedge. Amarillo will don the alternate threads for seven different games next season, including:
- Saturday, April 10 vs. NW Arkansas
- Sunday, April 25 vs. San Antonio
- Friday, May 21 vs. Midland
- Friday, June 11 vs. Frisco
- Thursday, July 1 vs. Wichita
- Friday, July 23 vs. Corpus Christi
- Sunday, August 22 vs. Frisco
Chiltons merchandise including t-shirts, hats, hoodies, polos, and other novelty items are now available online at sodpoodles.milbstore.com and in The Burrow. The 59FIFTY On-Field Cap featuring the primary Chiltons logo – named “Chill” – can be ordered in a presale and will be available for purchase at a later date.
Reed Beverage will serve as the title sponsor for The Chiltons with Western Son Vodka and Fever-Tree also sponsoring the lifestyle brand, helping to bring The Chiltons to life.
“The Chilton is a true West Texas favorite, and we’re thrilled to partner with the Amarillo Sod Poodles as they bring ‘The Chiltons’ to life,” said Reed Beverage President and CEO, Chris Reed. “Western Son Vodka and Fever-Tree Soda come together with fresh lemon and a salt rim to create the ultimate Chilton: crisp, refreshing, and made for celebrating baseball in the Panhandle.”
