FRISCO, TX (September 2, 2026) -- The Amarillo Sod Poodles (34-25, 70-57) fell to the Frisco RoughRiders (29-30, 68-59), 12-9, on Wednesday night at Riders Field. Despite finding themselves down big early, the Soddies fought back, but fell short in the comeback attempt.
Frisco put themselves ahead early on Sebastian Walcott’s leadoff homer in the first inning, but the Soddies quickly matched it with an RBI double off the bat of Danny Serretti to knot the score at one in the second.
However, the RoughRiders put themselves right back in front as Max Wagner mashed a hanging breaking ball 455 feet to left field to put the hosts back on top. Amarillo once again earned the run back on a two-bagger in the following frame, this time coming from the red hot Cristofer Torin whose two-out double gave him his fourth knock of the series.
Two outs were recorded by Mason Marriott to begin the home third, but a single and a double put ducks on the pond for Frisco before they took advantage of an infield single and an errant throw to go back up by one.
The back-and-forth scoring was halted as the Soddies went down in order in the top of the fourth. The scoreless frame gave way to a crooked number for the RoughRiders who posted eight runs in the bottom half to break the game open. RBI singles from Dylan Dreiling and Yeisson Morrobel kicked off the scoring and was followed by a Marcus Lee Sang bases-loaded walk before Gleider Figuereo launched his first career Double-A homer — a grand slam — to bring the Frisco run total to 11.
The ‘Riders made it a fifth straight inning with a run scored to open play as Rafe Perich’s two-out double made it a dozen for Frisco in the run column.
Amarillo found some life in the seventh with Torin adding a two-out RBI single to his line to bring home the third run of the night for the visitors. The lone run in the seventh was just a precursor to the five-run eighth inning that put the Sod Poodles right back in the game.
Angel Ortiz kicked off the eighth with a solo home run, his ninth of the year. Druw Jones then doubled and scored on Serretti’s second RBI knock of the game. With two away later in the frame, Trent Youngblood and Torin collected back-to-back run-scoring hits to put the eighth run of the game for Amarillo on the board, pulling within four of the RoughRiders.
After a scoreless home eighth, Jones stepped back up to the dish and proceeded to hit a 490-foot moonshot to left field to cut the deficit to three in the ninth. Only one other Sod Poodle reached base in the inning, however, ending the comeback attempt as Amarillo fell by a 12-9 score that evened the series.
POSTGAME NOTES
GRAN TORIN-O: Turning in another incredible day at the plate was Cristofer Torin as the shortstop collected three hits for the second straight night...his season hit total has now reached 130 which leads Sod Poodles and ranks 4th in the Texas League this season...since August 1, he is batting .404 (42x104) with 29 runs, 14 XBH, 18 RBI, and a 1.081 OPS over 24 games.
FOREVER YOUNGBLOOD: Reaching base safely four times this evening on a pair of walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a single was Trent Youngblood...he extended his on-base streak to 20 games (8/8-c) in doing so, the 2nd-longest by a Sod Poodle this season...he has reached base safely three or more times in each of his most recent four games (8/29-c), becoming the second Sod Poodle to do so this year, matching Avery Owusu-Asiedu (8/12-8/15) for the longest such streak on the team in 2026.
