Kernels sweep Sky Carp in doubleheader

BELOIT — The Cedar Rapids Kernels won a pair of tight games against the Sky Carp on Friday night, defeating the home team 3-2 and 9-6 at ABC Supply Stadium.

Despite chilly temperatures, it was a festive night at the ballpark, with the Sky Carp debuting their Grasshoppers jerseys on Supper Clubber Friday!

In game one, the Kernels plated a pair of runs on a single by Danny De Andrade with one out in the sixth inning to rally from a 2-1 deficit.

Highlights for the Sky Carp included an outstanding performance by starting pitcher Eliazar Dishmey, who threw four scoreless innings and struck out eight Kernels.

In game two, after a pair of clutch two-out hits by the Carp in the bottom of the sixth, the Kernels rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh for the 9-6 victory.

With the Carp trailing 5-4 in the sixth inning, Cam Cannarella cracked an RBI double to the gap in right-center field to tie the game, and Connor Caskenette followed with an RBI single to chase Cannarella home with the go-ahead run.

It was a banner game for Caskenette, who finished 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.

The two teams will meet again Saturday at 1:10 p.m. It’s Sunshine Saturday, a kid-friendly day featuring a scavenger hunt throughout the stadium. Kids can run the bases after the game, and families can play catch after the base run as well!
