The Sky Carp rallied from a late 7-3 deficit to defeat the Great Lakes Loons 10-8 Tuesday afternoon at ABC Supply Stadium. The high school students in for Business Seminar Day certainly got ample math practice in the shootout.
The Carp brought that 7-3 deficit into the bottom of the seventh inning before they rallied for six runs to flip the game on its head. Juan Matheus had the biggest hit, a bases-clearing double that tied the game at 7-7.
Cody Schrier followed the Matheus hit with an RBI single to give the Sky Carp their first lead of the game, and Connor Caskenette followed with another hit to score a run that made it 9-7.
After the Loons got a run back to cut the deficit to 9-8, Wilfredo Lara cracked the Carp’s first homer of the day, a solo shot to left that accounted for the final margin.
Juan Reynoso came out of the bullpen and struck out the side in the ninth to nail down his second save of the season. Hayden Cuthbertson (2-0) earned the win out of the Sky Carp bullpen.
Hitting stars were aplenty, with Starlyn Caba, Matheus and Caskenette each cracking two hits and the team drawing a total of seven walks.
It was the second win in a row for the Sky Carp, who can even their record at 8-8 with a victory tomorrow.
The teams will again play under a sky full of sunshine Wednesday, as Education Day’s first pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m.
