PORTLAND, Maine – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-22) won their ninth consecutive game behind 16 hits to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs (22-19), 13-5 at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field on Wednesday night.
Over the first two games of the series against the Sea Dogs, the Rumble Ponies have 31 hits and 29 runs scored. The nine-game win streak is tied for the fifth-longest win streak in Binghamton Double-A history, and they are 10-1 in the month of August.
Binghamton has scored in the first inning in six of their last eight games and took a 1-0 lead tonight in the first frame.
Shortstop Mitch Voit led off and tallied his eighth double through 12 Double-A games, and after third baseman Émilien Pitre grounded out to send Voit to third base, second baseman Jefferson Rojas delivered a sacrifice fly.
Portland left-hander Jeremy Wu-Yelland (L, 2-1) did not finish two innings, as he went 1.1 innings pitched and allowed five earned runs.
The Rumble Ponies scored five runs on four hits in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. Catcher Chris Suero led off the frame with a solo home run, his 15th of the season and just one shy of matching his career-high that he set in 2025.
First baseman Billy Amick and center fielder John Bay followed with walks and advanced to second and third base on a wild pitch from Wu-Yelland. Left fielder D’Andre Smith scored Amick with a sacrifice fly. One batter later, Yohairo Cuevas roped an RBI double, his third double and second RBI in just his sixth Double-A game.
Against right-hander Joe Vogatsky, the inning continued with a single from Voit, for his seventh multi-hit game, and Pitre followed with an RBI single as he scored Cuevas. Then Rojas brought in Voit on his second sacrifice fly.
Binghamton scored one run in the third and fourth innings to take an 8-0 lead. In the third inning, Smith chalked up a bloop RBI double to center field, which scored Amick. In the fourth, Reimer roped an RBI double to score Rojas. It is Reimer’s seventh RBI over his first six games back with Binghamton.
Binghamton right-hander Gary Gill Hill (W, 2-0), in his second start as a member of the New York Mets organization, went 5.0 innings for the 15th time in his first 17 Double-A starts and finished 6.0 innings for the sixth time at this level. Gill Hill allowed five runs and five hits with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
Portland would get to Gill in the bottom of the fifth inning for four runs to cut the Binghamton lead to 9-4. Second baseman Yoeilin Cespedes slotted his first Double-A home run with one out. Catcher Nate Baez then singled and left fielder Max Ferguson walked to set up right fielder Nelly Taylor, who delivered a three-run home run.
Binghamton came right back in the sixth inning for five runs on five hits to take a 13-4 advantage and their second straight game with double-digit hits and runs. Cuevas led off with a single for his second multi-hit game at the Double-A level. With one out, Pitre cashed in a three-hit game with an RBI single.
Then, with one out, Rojas scored Pitre on a single, and Reimer, one batter later, singled to set up first and third with one out. Amick came to the plate and sent his 29th home run over the wall in right field for a three-run home run.
Amick has six home runs and 17 RBI over his first nine games with Binghamton and has 89 RBI on the season in 95 games.
Gill Hill allowed one run in the sixth inning before he was taken out. First baseman Ronald Roasrio singled and advanced to third base on a wild pitch and passed ball. Shortstop Mason White brought Rosario home with a sacrifice fly to make it 13-5.
Portland right-hander Steven Brooks allowed one hit but faced the minimum in the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless eighth inning, where he allowed one hit to JT Benson, who entered in replacement for Pitre.
Binghamton right-hander Carlos Guzman surrendered a lead-off double to Baez in the seventh inning but retired the next three batters with one strikeout. Right-hander Brendan Girton threw a scoreless eighth with one hit and one strikeout.
In the ninth inning, Justin Armbruester, who had not pitched since July 30 against Reading after he was hit in the head with a line drive, handed in a scoreless ninth with two hits allowed and two strikeouts.
