PORTLAND, Maine – Bryce Conley recorded his 600th career strikeout in affiliated baseball, while Gabe Davis delivered a career-high 4.2 innings, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (34-34) were shut out by the Portland Sea Dogs (35-33), 1-0, at Hadlock Field on Saturday night.
Binghamton right-hander Gabe Davis (L, 1-1) made his 15th Double-A start and his sixth appearance as a member of the New York Mets organization, handed in a career best 4.2 innings pitched and allowed just one run on four hits.
Portland jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as left fielder Will Turner clubbed a first-pitch lead-off home run. Turner has four hits in the series and all four have been home runs.
Davis retired seven straight after the home run and struck out all three hitters between the fourth and fifth innings.
On the other side, Portland right-hander Morgan McSweeney (W, 2-1) cruised through Binghamton’s lineup and pitched a career- high 7.0 innings pitched. McSweeney surrendered just four hits and struck out five batters with one walk.
Over the first three innings, the Rumble Ponies tallied four hits but left three-runners on base. Shortstop Mitch Voit led-off the game with a single, but was caught stealing from catcher Johanfran Garcia.
In the third inning, Voit reached on a throwing error from shortstop Mitch Voit, and Vargas followed with a single, but right fielder Justin Gonzales threw out Voit who looked to take third base.
Binghamton right-hander Bryce Conley recorded his 600th career strikeout in affiliated baseball. A 2017 22nd-round pick of the Oakland Athletics, Conley is in his first season as a member of the Mets organization. He closed out his 2026 season with five strikeouts over 2.2 scoreless innings. Over his final three appearances, Conley went scoreless across 5.1 innings while recording 10 strikeouts.
Portland right-hander Steven Brooks (S, 2) entered in relief in the eighth inning and struck out the side. In the ninth inning he notched his second save of this series with a perfect frame. McSweeney and Brooks retired the final 17 Binghamton batters.
The Rumble Ponies close out a six-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A-Boston Red Sox) and the 2026 season on Sunday at Hadlock Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m and the game will be broadcast on News Radio 1290 AM & 92.1 FM, and on the WNBF News Radio App.
