READING, Pa. – Infielder Billy Amick, who the New York Mets acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Twins on Friday, was assigned to Double-A Binghamton on Saturday.
The Mets acquired Amick, along with fellow infield prospect Bruin Agbayani from the Twins in a trade for left-handed relief pitcher A.J. Minter on Friday.
Before the trade, Amick ranked as Minnesota’s No. 21 prospect (MLB Pipeline), and produced a .217 AVG, .820 OPS, 23 HR, 72 RBI, 60 R, 14 2B, 37 XBH, and 50 BB in 86 games with Double-A Wichita. This marks his third professional season and second full season of Minor League Baseball.
The 23-year-old ranks among Double-A hitters with 23 HR (T-5th) and 72 RBI (T-6th). The corner infielder ranked among the Texas League T-4th in HR, 4th in RBI, and T-7th with 37 XBH.
In 2025, Amick produced a .310 AVG, .873 OPS, 4 HR, 31 RBI, 37 R, 15 2B, 20 XBH, and 29 BB in 54 games with High-A Cedar Rapids.
Amick was originally drafted by the Twins in the second round (60th overall) of the 2024 MLB Draft out of the University of Tennessee.
He won a national championship in 2024, which was his lone season at Tennessee. With the Volunteers, Amick hit .306 with a 1.026 OPS, 23 HR, 65 RBI, 67 R, 14 2B, and 38 XBH in 65 games. He recorded two hits, two runs, and two walks in three games in the College World Series Finals vs. No. 3 Texas A&M.
The Batesburg, South Carolina, native played the first two seasons of his college career at Clemson University (2022-23). He was a member of Clemson’s 2023 ACC Championship team and was named an ABCA Second Team All-American and All-ACC First Team selection that season. He hit .413 with a 1.236 OPS, 13 HR, and 63 RBI as a sophomore at Clemson, before transferring to Tennessee. Prior to college, Amick attended P27 Academy in Lexington, South Carolina.
Agbayani, the son of former Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani, was Minnesota’s No. 29 prospect prior to the trade and now ranks as New York’s No. 22 prospect. The 19-year-old was originally drafted by the Twins in the sixth round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of St. Louis High School in Hawaii. Benny Agbayani played four seasons for the Mets (1998-01) and was a member of the 2000 National League Championship team.
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies continue their series against the Reading Fightin Phils (Double-A, Philadelphia Phillies) at FirstEnergy Stadium with a doubleheader on Saturday.
