Mark Vientos Scheduled to Begin MLB Rehab Assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Friday

8:00 PM UTC

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – New York Mets corner infielder Mark Vientos is scheduled to begin a Major League rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium against the Altoona Curve.

Vientos (right hand fracture) was placed on the Mets’ 10-day injured list on July 10. Vientos was removed from the game against the Kansas City Royals on July 9 at Citi Field, after he was hit on the right hand by a 92-mph fastball from RHP Michael Wacha. He was placed on the injured list the following day.

This season, Vientos has played in 73 games for the Mets and has produced a .211 AVG, .256 OBP, .388 SLG, .644 OPS, 11 HR, 35 RBI, 50 R, 9 2B, and 20 XBH.

He was originally drafted by the Mets in the second round (59th overall) of the 2017 MLB Draft at the age of 17, out of American Heritage in Florida. The 26-year-old is in his fifth MLB season. He has played in 386 games in his MLB career, after making his MLB debut on September 11, 2022. In his career, Vientos has produced a .234 AVG, .716 OPS, 65 HR, 192 RBI, 58 2B, and 126 XBH.

In 2024, Vientos established Mets single Postseason records in RBI (14) and multi-hit games (seven) en route to New York’s run to the National League Championship Series. Vientos had multi-hit games in each game of the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, and he joined Todd Zeile (2000) and Daniel Murphy (2015) as the only players in franchise history to record multiple hits in four-straight Postseason games. Vientos hit a grand slam in Game 2 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which was the third grand slam in Mets Postseason history.

In the regular season in 2024, Vientos smashed 27 home runs in the Major Leagues and tied for the fourth-most in a single season by a Mets hitter age 24 or younger. He also ranked fifth in the National League with a .516 SLG (min. 300 AB) that season.

Vientos came through Double-A Binghamton as a minor leaguer in 2021 on his way to the Major Leagues. He played in 72 games with Double-A Binghamton and produced a .281 AVG, .346 OBP, .580 SLG, .926 OPS, 22 HR, 59 RBI, 43 R, 16 2B, and 38 XBH before earning a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse on September 9 of that season. With Double-A Binghamton, Vientos was named an Eastern League All-Star, a New York Mets Organization All-Star (MiLB.com), and was tied for fourth in the Eastern League with 22 home runs in 2021.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies continue a six-game series against the Altoona Curve (the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) on Friday at 7 p.m. at Mirabito Stadium. The game will air on MiLB.TV, WNBF News Radio 1290 AM and 92.1 FM, and on the WNBF App. Pregame coverage gets underway at 6:45 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
