BIRMINGHAM, Ala -- Ryan Burrowes gets the walk-off single as the Birmingham Barons win 3-2 in 10 innings against the Columbus Clingstones before 1,733 at Regions Field on Tuesday night. The Barons loaded the bases with one out, and Burrowes delivered the big hit for the home win.
Starting pitcher Connor McCullough pitched five innings, giving up only two hits, one run, no earned, no runs, and two walks with five strikeouts. Mathias LaCombe pitched the sixth inning, giving up two hits, one earned run, and no walks. Recent call-up Aidan Anderson pitched the seventh inning, giving up only one hit with a strikeout. Pierce George pitched the eighth and ninth innings and struck out two. Jonathan Clark (6-1, 2.62) gets the win, and getting two huge strikeouts and stranding a Clingstone runner at third base in the 10th inning.
Columbus (21-19, 50-54) scored in the top of the first inning for the first runs of the game. Eric Hartman walked, stole second base, and went to third base on the throw to second base that sailed in the outfield. Carson Taylor grounded out, scoring Hartman, and the Clingstones took the early 1-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth inning, John Gil had an infield single and advanced to second base on a throwing error. Jordan Groshans doubled to center field, scoring Gil, and the Clingstones led 2-0.
Birmingham (18-22, 44-65) scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alec Briley was hit by a pitch. Briley stole second base. Colby Shelton singled to right field, scoring Briley, and the Clingstones lead was 2-1.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Barons needed a run to tie, and they pulled it off. Samuel Zavala reached on a fielding error. Jordan Sprinkle reached on a fielding error. Dylan Campbell sacrificed the runners to third and second base with one out. Tyler LaPorte threw a wild pitch, and Zavala scored to tie the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Bonemer started the inning at second base. Briley advanced Bonemer to third base on a ground out back to the pitcher. Jose Colmenares was hit by a pitch. Colby Shelton was intentionally walked. Burrowes stepped up with the walk-off hit to center field, scoring Bonemer and giving the Barons a 3-2 win.
Up next is Game 2 of the six-game series with Columbus. The Barons will send LHP Jake Palisch (3-8, 5.49) to the mound while the Clingstones will throw LHP Cam Caminita (0-0, 3.38). First pitch is at 7:00 pm.
