CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Alec Briley hit two home runs as the Birmingham Barons won 9-1 over the Chattanooga Lookouts before 2,416 at Erlanger Park on Wednesday night. The Barons pounded out four home runs and 13 hits in the road win and lead the series 2-0 over the Lookouts.
Starting pitcher Juan Carela pitched four innings, giving up two runs, one earned run, and four walks with five strikeouts. Mathias LaCombe pitched two innings and gave up only two walks with two strikeouts. Liam Paddack (3-0, 2.61) gets the win, going two innings and giving up only one hit with five strikeouts. Phil Fox pitched one inning, giving up one hit, no runs, and one walk with two strikeouts.
Birmingham (22-25, 48-68) scored four runs in the top of the first inning. With one out, Caleb Bonemer singled to left field, and Alec Briley hit a two-run home run to left field, and the Barons took an early 2-0 lead. Anthony DePino followed with a single to center field. Ryan Burrowes hit a two-run home run to center field, and the Barons led 4-0.
In the top of the second inning, Samuel Zavala singled on a line drive to center field. Zavala stole second base. Dylan Campbell singled to put runners at third and first with one out. Bonemer hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Zavala, and the Barons led 5-0.
Chattanooga (15-32, 52-64) scored in the bottom of the second inning on a Yerlin Confidan solo home run. The Lookouts trailed 5-1.
In the top of the seventh inning, Briley walked. DePino flied out to deep center field, and Briley tagged and went to second base on the play. Ryan Burrowed followed with a single to right field, scoring Briley, and the Barons took a 6-1 lead.
With two outs, Jose Colmenares hit his first home run of the season, a two-run home run, and the Barons led 8-1. In the top of the eighth inning, Briley hit a solo home run, and the Barons led 9-1.
For the Barons, Briley had two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk. Burrowes had a home run and two more singles, three RBI, and two runs scored. Zavala was on base four times with two hits, two walks, and a run scored.
