Birmingham Falls on the Road, 8-3 to Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee -- The Birmingham Barons fell 8-3 to the Chattanooga Lookouts before 5,012 at Erlanger Park on Thursday night. The Barons could not take advantage of the Lookouts pitchers, giving up eight walks, and could only put together five hits in the loss.

Starting pitcher Jake Palisch (0-2, 5.32) pitched 3.2 innings, giving up four hits, four earned runs, two walks with two strikeouts. Jarold Rosado pitched 1.1 innings and gave up only a walk. Jake Bockenstedt pitched one inning, giving up two hits and one earned run. Mark McLaughlin pitched one inning, giving up four hits and three earned runs, with a strikeout. Nick Altermatt pitched one inning, giving up one hit with two strikeouts.

The Lookouts (18-6) scored four runs before the Barons could get on the scoreboard. The Barons (10-14) turned it around in the top of the fifth inning. Jorge Corona singled. Jordan Sprinkle doubled to put two runners on base. A wild pitch scored Corona. The Barons trailed 4-1. Samuel Zavala grounded out, scoring Sprinkle for a 4-2 Chattanooga lead. Alec Makarewicz doubled on a line drive to right field, then he stole third base and scored on another wild pitch. The Barons trailed 4-3, and that was as close as they could get during the game.

Chattanooga tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh innings, keeping the Barons in check the rest of the way. For the Barons, Corona and Sprinkle had two hits apiece in the loss.
