BILOXI, Miss -- Jordan Sprinkle scored the go-ahead run as the Birmingham Barons won 3-2 over the Biloxi Shuckers before 2,204 at Keesler Federal Park on Thursday night. A wild pitch scored Sprinkle in the top of the ninth inning to give the Barons the one-run lead.
Starting pitcher Riley Gowens pitched three innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs, and two walks with two strikeouts. Carson Jacobs pitched two innings, giving up only one hit, no runs, and two walks with four strikeouts. Garrett Wright pitched 0.2 innings, giving up one hit, no runs, and two walks with a strikeout. Liam Paddack pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one hit, no runs, one walk with two strikeouts. Phil Fox (3-4, 2.95) gets the win, going one inning and only giving up a walk. Jackson Kelley gets his ninth save of the season, going one inning and giving up a hit with a strikeout.
Birmingham (30-30, 56-73) scored in the top of the first inning. Dylan Campbell walked to start the game. Caleb Bonemer singled. Alec Briley walked to load the bases. Anthony DePino followed with a walk, scoring Campbell, and the Barons led 1-0. A strikeout and a double play wiped out a potential big inning for the Barons.
Biloxi (26-34, 61-64) scored in the bottom of the first inning and took the lead. An Andrew Fischer two-run home run gave the Shuckers a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the third inning, DePino hit a solo home run, his 19th home run of the season, on a line drive to center field. The game was tied at 2-2.
In the top of the ninth inning, Sprinkle walked with one out. Sprinkle stole second base. Campbell got an infield single, but Sprinkle had to hold at second base. With Bonemer batting, Sprinkle and Campbell stole third and second base. With Briley batting with two outs, Ryan Birchard threw a wild pitch, scoring Sprinkle, and the Barons took the 3-2 lead.
