BIRMINGHAM, Ala -- Caleb Bonemer hit a walkoff single as the Birmingham Barons won 3-2 over the Rocket City Trash Pandas before 3,473 at Regions Field on Friday night. The Barons were 0-for-11 in runners in scoring position before Bonemer got the big hit. The Barons tied the series at 2-2.
Starting pitcher Jake Palisch threw a gem, going five innings, giving up only six hits, one run, no earned runs, and two walks with five strikeouts. Mathias LaCombe followed with two innings, getting three strikeouts. Liam Paddack (4-0, 2.36) got the win, going two innings, giving up one hit, one run, and two walks with four strikeouts.
Rocket City (29-26, 64-59) scored in the top of the third inning. Arjun Nimmala singled on a line drive to left field. Jake Monroe reached on a fielding error. Caleb Bartolero doubled, scoring Nimmala, and the Trash Pandas took the early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Birmingham (28-27, 54-70) got on the scoreboard. Colby Shelton rips a triple down the right field line. Jacob Burke walked. Jose Colmenares hit a sacrifice fly to center field, and the game was tied at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Samuel Zavala walked. Dylan Campbell singled to put runners at second and first base. Bonemer walked. Alec Briley hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Zavala. The Barons led 2-1.
In the top of the 9th, Randy De Jesus walked. Nimmala walked. With two outs, Jake Munroe was hit by a pitch, and Tucker Flint was hit on the hand, and that scored Nimmala to tie the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Zavala walked for the third time in the game. Dylan Campbell singled, moving Zavala to third base. Bonemer hit a single to left field, scoring Zavala and the winning run.
