MADISON, Ala -- The Birmingham Barons lost 2-1 to the Rocket City Trash Pandas before 3,974 on Sunday afternoon. The Barons held a 1-0 lead through six innings, but couldn't hold the lead in the last three innings. Rocket City won four of the six games in the series, and the Barons dropped to 4.0 games back in the playoff race to Rocket City.
Starting pitcher Dylan Cumming (3-7, 5.28) gets the loss, going six innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs, and three walks with four strikeouts. Jackson Kelley pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Birmingham (17-22, 43-65) scored in the top of the sixth inning when Alec Briley walked. With one out, Anthony DePino singled on a sharp line drive to left field. Colby Shelton followed with an RBI double to center field, scoring Briley, and the Barons took the 1-0 lead.
Rocket City (21-18, 56-51) took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh inning. A Jake Thompson RBI single scored Tucker Flint and Caleb Bartolero, and the Trash Pandas took the 2-1 lead.
In the top of the ninth for the Barons, Jorge Corona walked, but the next three Barons struck out to end the game.
Up next, the Barons will host Columbus on Tuesday. First pitch is at 7:00 pm at Regions Field.
