
Frederick, Maryland – Ryan McCoy and Noah Myers each drove in two runs, while a four-run tenth inning catapulted the Bowling Green Hot Rods (75-34, 28-16) to a 6-2 win over the Frederick Keys (66-40, 26-16) on Wednesday at Nymeo Field in Frederick, Maryland.
The Keys scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning against Hot Rods starter Trevor Harrison. Jordan Sanchez led off the inning with a solo homer to right, giving the Keys a 1-0 lead.
Bowling Green responded in the top of the sixth inning against Frederick starter Stephen Still. Narciso Polanco singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. McCoy took a base hit to center, scoring Polanco, tying the game at 1-1.
The Hot Rods took the lead in the top of the eighth inning against Keys reliever Braeden Sloan. With one out, Ryan Cermak and Polanco singled. McCoy sent another base hit to center, scoring Cermak to hand the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead.
Frederick tied the game in the bottom of the eighth against Bowling Green reliever Noah Beal. DJ Layton worked leadoff walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Sanchez walked, and Randall Diaz brought in Layton with a bunt single, tying the game at 2-2.
Neither team scored in the ninth inning, forcing extra innings in Frederick.
Bowling Green exploded for four runs in the top of the tenth against Frederick reliever Chandler Marsh. Nathan Flewelling started as the extra-innings runner at second and scored on a Ryan Cermak single, making it 3-2. Cermak stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Polanco and McCoy walked, and Cermak was caught trying to take home. Noah Myers stepped in and stroked a double off the right field wall, scoring both runners, making it a 5-2 Hot Rods lead. Larry Martinez drove in the final run of the inning with a single to left, creating a 6-2 score.
Jacob Hartlaugh tossed a perfect ninth inning for Bowling Green, locking down a 6-2 win for the Hot Rods.
Hartlaub (1-1) earned the win, tossing 2.0 perfect inning with two strikeouts to log his first win of the season. Marsh (4-3) was given the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on three hits, walking two and striking out two.
The Hot Rods and Keys play the third game of a six-game series on Thursday with a 6:00 PM CT first pitch at Nymeo Field. Bowling Green starter is to be determined and will face Frederick RHP Evan Yates (1-0, 0.00).
