LAKELAND, Fla. – Reinold Navarro punched out six batters and allowed just one hit over 5.0 scoreless innings, leading the Bradenton Marauders (17-29, 48-63) to a 7-0 shutout win against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (21-24, 52-58) on Saturday from Publix Field. Cristian Jauregui collected a three-hit night during Bradenton's fifth shutout victory of the year.
The Marauders began the scoring in the top of the second off Flying Tigers starter Kelvis Salcedo. Jauregui blasted a solo homer, putting Bradenton up 1-0.
In the top of the fourth, Brent Iredale, Luke Scherrer, and Raymond Mola each singled to load the bases. Kendrick Herrera singled, allowing Iredale and Scherrer to score and make it 3-0. Mola scored and Herrera reached third on a throwing error, increasing the lead 4-0. A wild pitch allowed Herrera to plate and make it a 5-0 ballgame.
With Eddie King Jr. and Iredale at third and second, Jauregui singled to center, plating King Jr. and Iredale to make it 7-0.
Bradenton reliever Gavin Adams closed it down in the ninth to finalize a 7-0 win for the Marauders.
Navarro (5-2) notched the win, letting up a hit with six strikeouts over 5.0 scoreless innings. Salcedo (0-3) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits, a walk, and six strikeouts over 3.2 frames.
The Marauders and Flying Tigers play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.
